On May 22nd, 2023, the Civil Engineering Department of Tishk International University (TIUS) coordinated a site visit to the Sulaimani General Construction Laboratory (SGCL). The educational trip, supervised by Mr. Ilham Ibrahim, was attended by 3rd and 4th grade students from the Civil Engineering Department at TIUS, and aimed to elucidate the quality control measures employed for asphalt products utilized in the roadways of Sulaimani and its adjacent areas, with particular emphasis on the Marshal Mix Design procedures for hot mix asphalt concrete.
Engineer Mr. Chya Mohammed, the Asphalt Section Supervisor at SGCL, delineated the fundamental criteria for superior quality asphalt mixes and proffered insights on addressing on-site challenges. Additionally, Engineer Chya Mohammed explained the sequential steps of the marshal mix design and availed an interactive session where students actively engaged in queries concerning mix design and the laboratory’s quality control mechanisms.
