Earthquake Resistant Building Practices and Design Provisions Workshop
In collaboration with the ACI Kurdistan Chapter, the Civil Engineering Department at Tishk International University-Sulaimani (TIUS) organized a workshop entitled: Earthquake Resistant Building Practices and Design Provisions, held on March 1st, 2023. The workshop featured three presentations from experts in the field.
The first presentation was delivered by Dr. Nazim Abdul Nariman, in whcih he discussed the high-rise building resonance and structural stability during earthquakes. Mr,Shuaib Abdulla presented the second session, in which he discussed the design provisions that must be taken into account when constructing earthquake-resistant buildings. Finally, Dr. Pshtiwan Shakor, Professor at TIUS, gave a presentation on the structural health monitoring for vibration and earthquake detection.
The moderator for this workshop did an excellent job of keeping the discussion flowing and engaging all participants. Overall, around 50 engineers, architects and academicians participated, and the workshop provided valuable insights into earthquake-resistant building practices and design provisions. We look forward to future workshops that will continue to advance our knowledge in this important field.
