On May 25, 2025, the Computer Engineering and IT Department at Tishk International University – Sulaimani, in collaboration with Tilburg University, the Zero Hunger Lab, and Sulaimani Polytechnic University, proudly hosted the international workshop titled “Empowering Minds with AI — Tools, Models, and Practical Applications.” The event brought together esteemed academics, researchers, and students to explore the transformative role of AI in education, research, and real-world problem-solving.
Insights from Global AI Experts
The workshop featured presentations from three distinguished speakers who provided valuable insights into the latest developments and applications of AI.
- Lect. Yusra Mohammed M. Salih from Tishk International University – Sulaimani presented on “Intelligent Solutions: Exploring AI Tools for Academic and Research Excellence.” Her session introduced participants to cutting-edge AI technologies and practical tools designed to improve research workflows, boost productivity, and enhance efficiency in academic settings.
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Hozan Khalid Hamarashid from Sulaimani Polytechnic University delivered a session titled “DeepSeek in LLMs via Reinforcement Learning Compared to ChatGPT.” He provided a detailed comparative analysis of DeepSeek and ChatGPT, focusing on how reinforcement learning influences large language models and their capabilities, shedding light on their growing role in communication and knowledge generation.
- Dr. Hezha Hassan MohammedKhan from the Zero Hunger Lab, Tilburg University, presented on the application of AI and machine learning in addressing global challenges such as child malnutrition. Her research at the Zero Hunger Lab uses computer vision and predictive modeling to detect malnutrition from visual and contextual data, with the goal of supporting early intervention and effective resource allocation.
