The Departments of Computer Engineering and Information Technology at Tishk International University – Sulaimani organized an International Workshop titled “Decoding Life: The AI Revolution in Bioinformatics and Healthcare” on June 7, 2026.
The workshop aimed to explore how Artificial Intelligence is transforming the scientific landscape—from genomics and disease prediction to precision medicine and drug discovery. It also sought to equip participants with valuable insights into applying computational skills in programming, data science, and machine learning to complex biological challenges, while highlighting career and research opportunities at the intersection of computer science and life sciences.
The event featured two distinguished speakers who shared cutting-edge research and real-world applications of AI in bioinformatics and healthcare. Dr. Husen Muhammad Umer from the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), followed by an presentation from Dr. Bestoon Hussein, a researcher from the University of York and Lecturer at TIU.
Faculty members, students, and technology professionals actively participated in the event. Through expert-led presentations and interactive discussions, attendees gained a deeper understanding of how advanced computational tools are reshaping modern medical science. The workshop concluded with the presentation of certificate awards to the speakers and organizers in recognition of their contributions.
