On 10 June 2026, the Department of Architecture and the Department of Interior Design at Tishk International University–Sulaimani organized an international workshop titled “The Loss of Sense of Place in Rapid Urban Growth.” Delivered by distinguished Iraqi architect and artist Maath Alousi, the workshop brought together students, faculty members, architects, and practitioners. It was conducted online and streamed live in the Conference Hall at Tishk International University–Sulaimani.
The workshop provided participants with a critical understanding of the relationship between architecture, urban growth, heritage, and local identity. It encouraged students and professionals to view cities as living environments shaped by accumulated cultural and social experiences and to pursue development strategies that protect the spirit of place while responding to present and future needs.
The Department of Architecture at Tishk International University–Sulaimani is part of the Faculty of Engineering and provides an educational environment that integrates architectural design, theory, technology, urban studies, and engagement with contemporary challenges affecting the built environment. Through workshops, seminars, academic projects, and professional collaborations, the department supports students in developing the knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking required for responsible architectural practice.
