On 27 September 2026, Dr. Srwa Ali Mohammed, Head of the Medical Analysis Department at Tishk International University, contributed as Chair of the Examination Committee for a master’s thesis defense at Charmo University. The thesis was entitled “Molecular Study of Some Virulence Genes in Proteus mirabilis Isolated from Patients with Urinary Tract Infections in Sulaymaniyah Province, Kurdistan Region, Iraq.”
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a noteworthy public health concern caused by various pathogens, including Proteus mirabilis, which is chiefly associated with complicated UTIs and catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs).
The study aimed to investigate selected virulence-associated genes in P. mirabilis isolates obtained from clinical samples. These genes are associated with important pathogenic characteristics, including hemolysin production, urease activity, protease activity, biofilm formation, and fimbriae-mediated adhesion.
The findings contribute to a better understanding of the molecular characteristics and potential pathogenic mechanisms of P. mirabilis associated with urinary tract infections in Sulaymaniyah city.
