On May 25, 2025, the Computer Engineering and IT Department at Tishk International University – Sulaimani, in collaboration with Tilburg University, the Zero Hunger Lab, and Sulaimani Polytechnic University, proudly hosted the international workshop titled “Empowering Minds with AI — Tools, Models, and Practical Applications.” The event brought together esteemed academics, researchers, and students to explore the transformative role of AI in education, research, and real-world problem-solving.

Prof. Dr. Hozan Khalid Hamarashid (Sulaimani Polytechnic University) delivered “DeepSeek in LLMs via Reinforcement Learning Compared to ChatGPT,” providing a detailed comparative analysis of DeepSeek and ChatGPT, focusing on how reinforcement learning influences large language models and their capabilities.

Dr. Hezha Hassan MohammedKhan (Zero Hunger Lab, Tilburg University) presented on the application of AI and machine learning in addressing global challenges such as child malnutrition, using computer vision and predictive modeling to detect malnutrition from visual and contextual data.
