TIUS Celebrates Remarkable Success at the Valeria Morabito Award Competition in Italy
We are delighted to inform you of the exceptional performance of our students from Tishk International University-Sulaimani (TIU-S) at the Valeria Morabito Award Competition, which took place in Reggio Calabria, Italy, from May 21-24, 2024. Our students have demonstrated exceptional talent and innovation on an international scale under the expert guidance of Dr. Sardar Sulaiman Shareef, Head of the Interior Design Department and Lecturer in the Architecture Engineering Department.
The accomplishments of our students were made even more noteworthy by the participation of various international contestants in this year’s competition. Five innovative projects were highlighted by TIUS, four of which were selected for exhibition. Arya Rebwar Qadir and Mohammed Farhad Ahmed, second-grade students in the Architecture Engineering Department, are the designers of the “Eco Refuge: Sustainable Shelter Solutions” project, which was awarded the second-place overall prize. Featuring units that can be folded, reused, and recycled, this innovative project offers a visionary approach to refugee camp shelters, addressing critical global challenges with sustainable solutions.
Further, the “Reel Living Fisherman Unit,” a project of exceptional quality that was developed by fourth-grade students in the Architecture Engineering Department, Diya Azad and Rastgo Shaho, was included in the top 10. The objective of this project is to transform environmental concerns into innovative living solutions by creating sustainable living spaces for fishermen using recycled plastic from Darbandikhan Lake.
These accomplishments are a reference to the hard work and dedication of our students, as well as the leadership and guidance of Dr. Sardar Sulaiman Shareef, whose contributions have been instrumental in this success. We express our most sincere congratulations to all the students and their mentors who have maintained the highest standards of excellence and brought honour to TIUS. To demonstrate that the sky is the limit, let us continue to provide support and encouragement to our young innovators who are making significant contributions in their respective fields.
