Department of English Language Teaching (ELT) at TIU Sulaimani organized a National Workshop entitled “Goal Setting for Teachers” on May 28, 2022, Saturday at 11: 20 am local time to the teaching staff of U.S. Colleges Primary School at Kani Kurda. The main objective of the Workshop was to inspire and motivate primary school teacher from diverse subjects to set and implement personal as well as professional short-time or long-term goals to improve their efficiency in the respective subjects they teach.

Prof. Alpaslan Toker, Faculty Member and Head of ELT Department, based his presentation on four key areas of self-improvement that included: Classroom Management, Planning Instruction, Relationships with Students and Co-Workers and Professional Practice. In the light of these areas, Dr. Toker encouraged or urged a group of young and aspiring teachers to determine their needs and act upon them after identifying their areas of improvement.

Prof. Toker suggested various paths for self-improvement including tech skills, pedagogical knowledge, classroom management, presentation skills, teacher certification and language skills. The participants to the workshop seemed highly pleased and delighted with the contents and felt extremely motivated to consider these paths to self-improvement seriously. Dr. Toker’s presentation ended with the round of applause from the participants and words of gratitude for the time and the transfer of experience.
